TRAINING PROGRAMME ON MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OF FRUIT CROPS

The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), under the aegis of Dean, College of Agriculture, organized a training programme on the "Management Practices of Fruit Crops". This programme was conducted by the final year B. Sc (Hons.) Agriculture students as part of their Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme at village Kular, Ludhiana in which about 40 farmers participated.

Dr Harsimrat Kaur Bons, Senior Fruit Scientist, delivered a lecture regarding the management practices in fruit crops and guided farmers regarding major fruit problems like fruit cracking, fruit drop, fruit fly, etc.

Dr Amanpreet, Agronomist, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, highlighted the importance of new canola varieties like GSC 7, which are known for their heart health benefits due to low erucic acid content. She also elaborated on the recommended cultivation practices for oilseed crops.

Dr Kulvir Kaur, Assistant Professor, Skill Development Centre, informed farmers about various training programs conducted throughout the year, aimed at enhancing agricultural knowledge and practical skills.

Dr Amandeep Singh, Agricultural Extension Officer, appealed to the farmers to adopt proper paddy straw management practices and highlighted various benefits associated with them.

Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Coordinator RAWE program, concluded the camp with a vote of thanks to all the farmers, PAU experts along with Agricultural Extension Officer and secretory.

Student Karanveer Sharma delivered an informative lecture on management practices of rabi crops. The participating farmers showed keen interest in buying evergreen fruit plants and fruit fly traps. Arshdeep Singh, Secretary of Cooperative Society, was also present at the event. The entire programme was coordinated by Gurteg Singh Bons.
