COAET CELEBRATES 56th NSS FOUNDATION DAY
25-09-2025

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), celebrated its 56th Foundation Day. This milestone commemorates the establishment of the NSS on September 24, 1969, during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. The NSS was founded to instill a sense of social responsibility in students through voluntary community service, encouraging them to address community needs and contribute to societal development.

The Foundation Day celebration, organized by NSS Programme Officers Dr Rupinder Pal Singh and Dr Gagandeep Kaur Nagra, highlighted the legacy of selfless service and community engagement that the NSS has championed for over five decades. The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director of Students’ Welfare (DSW), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana; Dr Harmeet Singh Saralch, NSS Programme Coordinator; and Senior Scientist Dr NK Chhuneja. The event saw enthusiastic participation from more than 50 NSS volunteers who expressed their perspectives on NSS-themed social issues through sketches, drawings, and paintings. Each participant presented their artwork in a concise 120-second speech. The presentations were judged by Dr Ritesh Jain and Dr Manpreet Kaur from the Department of Civil Engineering, PAU.

Dr Jaura remarked, "The dedication of our NSS volunteers is truly inspiring. Their creative expressions today reflect the spirit of service that NSS embodies, and I am confident they will continue to make a positive impact on society."

Dr Rupinder Pal Singh shared a brief historical excerpt: "Since its inception in 1969, the NSS has been a beacon of hope, channelling the energy of youth towards nation-building. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, our volunteers have consistently worked towards uplifting communities, and today’s event is a testament to their unwavering commitment."

The first prize was won by Sakshi Raj and Kanika Sharma. The second prize was awarded to Neelkamal Kaur, and the third prize went to Prisha Sharma and Mitali.
