A one-day training programme for Kisan Mitars, appointed under the Pilot Project, was organized at PAU–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bathinda on 23rd September 2025. A total of 20 Kisan Mitars participated in this training.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Bathinda, who delivered a lecture on the importance of water management in agriculture and the role of maize cultivation and harvesting in ensuring sustainable farming practices.

Dr. Ramandeep Kaur addressed the participants on harvesting, threshing and drying of maize. She emphasized the importance of timely drying of maize and shared details about various maize dryers available for farmers.

Further, Dr. Navneet Kaur, DES (Agronomy), FASC Bathinda, delivered a lecture on the significance of maize cultivation, weed management, and scientific practices to improve productivity.

The training was organized to sensitize Kisan Mitars about the need for diversification from paddy to maize, in view of challenges such as declining groundwater levels, marketing issues, and reduced soil fertility due to excessive paddy cultivation. Through this capacity-building initiative, Kisan Mitars will be able to spread awareness among farmers about scientific maize production and post-harvest management practices.
