PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sri Muktsar Sahib, in collaboration with Hindustan Insecticide Limited (HIL), India, organized training camp on “Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides”. About 350 farmers participated in the event. Dr. Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU Ludhiana, was the Chief Guest. In his address Dr. Dhillon emphasized the importance of pesticide labels, encouraged farmers towards crop diversification and urged them to follow PAU’s recommendations for scientific crop cultivation. Dr. Karamjit Sharma, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK, Sri Muktsar Sahib, welcomed the dignitaries and farmers. He also highlighted the activities of KVK and motivated participants to avail trainings of PAU and KVK for adopting allied occupations. Mr. Abhishek Koshik, Deputy General Manager, HIL (India), briefed the gathering about the company’s initiatives and stressed the significance of safe pesticide usage. A documentary on pesticide safety was screened, and a live demonstration on the safe handling of pesticides using safety kits was also conducted. On this occasion, exhibitions were set up by KVK and Self-Help Groups, while vegetable seed kits and PAU literature were made available to farmers. Pesticide safety kits were also distributed to the participant farmers. KVK scientists delivered technical lectures on soil health management, crop production, horticultural practices, and dairy farming in respect to judicious use of agrochemcals. Dr. Dhillon visited the technology Park, research trials, and various demonstration units at KVK and appreciated the efforts being made by the team KVK to serve farming community. |
