Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized a district level awareness camp on the importance of crop residue management under the leadership of Director of Extension Education, PAU and Director, ICAR-Atari, Zone-1, Ludhiana. The camp was organized on 30.09.2025 at village Bhanupali, in which more than 100 farmers, farm women and rural youth from Bhanupali and nearby villages Nangli, Jindwari, Dher and Jandla participated.

Dr. Satbir Singh, the Associate Director of Training at KVK Ropar, provided valuable insights to the participants regarding innovative methods for managing paddy residue and explored the potential of the surface seeding technique for wheat. He emphasized that managing crop residue is crucial for sustainable agriculture as it enhances soil health, boosts soil fertility through nutrient recycling, and conserves water. Furthermore, it promotes a vibrant soil microbiome, diminishes the reliance on synthetic fertilizers, offers a source of organic matter, and can be utilized to produce valuable items such as animal feed, organic manure, and biofuel. Proper management also mitigates the detrimental practice of burning crop residue, which contributes to air pollution and depletes essential soil nutrients.

Dr. Aparna, Professor (Animal Science), Dr. Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry) and Dr. Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), addressed the significance of straw in various agricultural fields. On this occasion, farmers were given agricultural literature, vegetable home garden kits, and scrap metal intended for animal use. Every participant in the program made a commitment to avoid burning crop residues and conveyed their sincere thanks to the center, expressing a desire for further cooperation moving forward.
