PAU-KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, HOSHIARPUR ORGANIZES FIELD DAY ON SESAME CULTIVATION

In district Hoshiarpur, sesame (Til) crop is cultivated on an approximate area of 400 ha, mainly in kandi region. Its cultivation is suitable in this area due to low water requirement and minimal crop management practices as compared to other crops. Keeping in view the importance of Til crop in this area and for showcasing the performance of frontline demonstrations on sesame, PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur organized a field day in village Jandiala on 29-9-2025.

Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur while addressing the farmers, discussed about the purpose of the cluster frontline demonstrations on Til crop and gave a detailed account of the recommended cultivation practices, nutrient and pest management regarding the demonstrated sesame variety, Punjab Til No. 2. He also said that this variety has profuse branching and dense capsule bearing. It matures in about 90 days and yields 2.8 quintals per acre. Dr. Bons also shared important hints on cultivation practices for rabi crops-wheat, gobhi sarson, gram & lentil and also appealed to the farmers to shun the practice of burning of crop residue.

Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) shared important tips regarding improved cultivation techniques for peas, potato and mushroom cultivation. He also spoke on the need for balanced & nutritive diet in the present time and motivated the farmers to adopt integrated nutrition gardening.

Progressive farmers of the village, Sh. Dharminder Singh, Sh. Rashpal Singh, Sh. Jujhar Singh, Sh. Gurmeet Singh, Sh.Palwinder Singh and Sh.Sukhbir Singh participated in this camp and fruitful discussion with the experts regarding their queries.
