Subsidiary occupation in the field of home science serves as an important by promoting food and nutritional security, enhancing rural livelihoods, and empowering women through income-generating activities like agro-processing and diversified household skills. It addresses issues like malnutrition and unemployment, provides value addition opportunities for farmers, and creates year-round income stability, especially for families reliant on agriculture, contributing to a more prosperous and resilient rural economy. For this purpose, a five days vocational training programme on “Preparation of sweets for festive season” organized under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana from 23.9.2025 to 29.9.2025 concluded today at KVK Ropar. The training programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Satbir Singh, Associate Director (trg.) KVK, Ropar in which 21 girls from different villages were participated.

Dr. Satbir Singh congratulated the participants and apprised them of the scope of this venture through value addition. He motivated the participants to adopt this enterprise by forming small self help groups.

Ms. Manpreet Kaur, Demonstrator (Home Science) shared keeping in view latest trends, participants were imparted training in the preparation of different types of products like, dhoda barfi, chukander laddoo, khoya laddoo, boondi laddoo, balushahi, gud wali matthi, matri and cake etc. Participants showed great interest in the training program and gave assurance that they will prepare products at household level during festive season.
