As per the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Hoshiarpur, Mrs. Ashika Jain, PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur and Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, jointly organized a village level awareness camp on paddy residue management on 24-9-2025 at paddy residue burning hot spot village Talwandi Daddian, in block Tanda of district Hoshiarpur. The farmers from the neighbouring villages of Thakri, Zahura, Bahadurpur and Talwandi Salla also actively participated in the programme.
On this occasion, Dr. Lovejeet Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Tanda welcomed the farmers and encouraged them to avoid the practice of paddy residue burning this season.
Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, shared technical insights on the use of different paddy residue management machineries. He also highlighted the alternative uses of paddy straw in mushroom cultivation, paddy straw-based biogas plant, for bio char and as mulch.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Deepinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Hoshiarpur, informed that the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has provided subsidized machinery worth approximately ₹50 lakhs to the farmers of Block Tanda this year. He assured farmers that the Department will continue to extend all possible support to make paddy residue management machinery available to the them.
As the Guest of Honour, Shri. Parampreet Singh, PCS, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Tanda appealed to the farmers to refrain from burning paddy residue. He further assured that the administration will provide all necessary assistance required by the farmers for effective management of paddy residue. |
