Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, unveiled its redesigned website today in a ceremony led by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal. The occasion was attended by university officers, faculty, staff, students, and mentors from the city who collectively steered the project from conceptualization to execution.
The website revamp was a collaborative enterprise, pooling the creativity of the university community with the expertise of mentors who guided the visual strategy. Dr. Gosal congratulated the teams for producing a dynamic and engaging platform, enriched with high-quality images, videos, and an intuitive design. He highlighted the new homepage, improved navigation tabs, thematic sections, ranking highlights, international presence, and visual narratives showcasing the university’s social and global footprint.
Committees were formed with clearly defined responsibilities, yet the project was distinguished by the spirit of collaboration across groups. The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the voluntary contribution of mentors, including Mr. T.P.S. Sandhu, Mr. Amajeet S. Bhat, Dr. M.S. Toor, and Dr. A.P. Singh, who brought fresh ideas and visual direction at no cost.
Registrar Dr. Rishi Pal Singh (IAS) traced the website’s journey from conception to launch. He emphasized that the new platform carries the weight of legacy while also opening a digital bridge for farmers, students, alumni, collaborators, and the wider community. The effort, he noted, reflects PAU’s stature and its commitment to meaningful outreach.
Serving as nodal officer, Dr. Manjeet Singh, Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, recalled that the earlier version of the website dated back to 2008 and relied heavily on text. The redesigned interface, built with modern tools and enhanced by mentor-driven audio-visual elements, introduces features such as a search engine and a chatbot to improve accessibility and interactivity. He credited the technical team, creative team, developers, and representatives from various directorates and colleges for their valuable inputs.
The creative and technical leads outlined the hurdles behind the transformation. Dr. Deepika Vig, convener of the creative team, spoke of reimagining content presentation in a graphics-oriented format while retaining user-friendly accessibility. Dr. O.P. Gupta, technical convener, focused on the challenges of backend optimization. Dr. G.S. Makkar from the Directorate of Extension Education shared key learnings drawn from the project.
Mentor and special invitee, Mr. T.P.S. Sandhu, reflected on the effort to set up a temporary studio for portraits and post-production, assuring continued support in future initiatives. Dr. Sumedha Bhandari, co-convener of the creative team, provided a detailed walkthrough of the website’s interface, while student contributor Mr. Lakshay recounted his experience of working on the project.
The event concluded with the felicitation of all contributors by the Vice-Chancellor. Coordination for the program was handled by Dr. Vishal Bector, Associate Director (Institution Relations). |
