To mark National Nutrition Month 2025 under the theme “Food Connects Us”, the Department of Food and Nutrition, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organised a series of Nutrition Awareness Camps aimed at encouraging healthy dietary habits among College students. The initiative also included special health advisories tailored for gym enthusiasts and sportspersons, jointly released by Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), and Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana.

The camps, held at SCD Government College and GADVASU, drew participation from over 650 students and faculty members. A key highlight was the Body Composition Analysis, followed by personalised dietary counselling, equipping participants with practical strategies to improve their nutritional status and fitness levels.

The efforts received high appreciation from Dr GS Sandhu, Principal, SCD Government College, Ludhiana and Dr RS Grewal, Director Extension Education, GADVASU. Both lauded the department’s initiative, stressing that such programmes are vital in creating awareness about balanced nutrition and preventive health among the youth.

Dr Kiran Bains, Dean, College of Community Science, commended the department for sensitising students about gym advisories and importance of balanced diets.

Dr Harpreet Kaur, Professor and Head of the Department, highlighted the significance of nutrition education and choosing healthier, natural food sources, especially for gym goers and sportspersons.

The camps, guided by Dr Renuka Aggarwal and Dr Amarjeet Kaur, were organized with active support from the Master’s students of the department. Participants learned about proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and protective foods, along with practical tips to include them in daily life.

The initiative reinforced that good nutrition is key to health, fitness, gym performance, and academic success, highlighting the impact of student-led efforts under expert guidance.
