The
College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (erstwhile College of
Agricultural Engineering) was established in the year
1964 with the guidance and help from Ohio State University, USA through a
generous grant from the Ford Foundation. The college was declared as “Centre of
Excellence” for Agricultural Engineering Education in South East Asia by UNO.
The college further received recognition by way of getting a prestigious programme on Centre of Advanced Studies on Energy Management in Agriculture by
the prestigious FAO/UNDP and ICAR in 1984. After that, a Centre of Advanced
Studies in Farm Power and Machinery was sanctioned by the ICAR during the 8th
Five Year Plan ended in 1997. Recently in the year 2017 the college was adjudged
as one of the best institution in the northern region.
The
college has excellent training facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate
education. Because of the high quality of the training imparted by the College,
quite a large number of the graduates of the College are being placed up by
Tractors, Irrigation, Food Processing Industry through campus interviews. During
the last over six decades of its existence, the College has developed several
new technologies for the benefit of farmers and entrepreneurs of the State. In
addition to imparting education, the College has also played a leading role in
solving the problems of the farmers and the industry by undertaking
problem-oriented research and speedy technology transfer. Under CRM scheme
launched by Govt of India to manage paddy straw in the northern states Punjab,
Haryana, Delhi and UP, almost all the machines being promoted on subsidy are
developed by our college. Now the focus of our college is towards development of
renewable energy based engineering technologies for conservation/regenerative/
precision farming and value addition of the crop produce. |
